Rinse The Salt Off Every Time

Salt crystals, sand and grit collect inside fin boxes and around grub screws. Rinse your board with fresh water after every surf and allow it to dry naturally in the shade before storing it.

Avoid excessive heat. Leaving your board in a hot vehicle or direct tropical sun can gradually reduce the mechanical properties of composite materials. If your fins contain urethane components, excessive heat can reduce elasticity and rebound over time.

Check Your Fin Boxes & Hardware

Inspect fin tabs, fin boxes, grub screws, the base, leading and trailing edges for damage. Tighten screws firmly, but never overtighten as excessive force can damage fin tabs, threads or fin boxes.

Protect Your Fin Foils

Even small chips or scratches along the leading edge can disturb water flow and reduce performance. Lightly smooth small nicks with fine wet-and-dry sandpaper, following the original foil.

Remove fins before travel, store them in a fin wallet, carry spare grub screws and a fin key, and prevent fins from moving freely inside your board bag.
